DURANT – Dana Trent has been selected as the new coordinator at the Ron Cross Senior Activity Center (RCSAC).
Trent has been employed by the City of Durant for approximately three years and formerly held the roles of assistant grant writer and accounts receivable clerk. As assistant grant writer, Trent added in writing grants that financed the senior center’s nutrition transportation bus, food pantry and emergency generators.
The City of Durant hosts three programs at RCSAC, including the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Southern Oklahoma Nutrition Program and the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative. Together, the organizations provide seniors with activities, meals and entertainment.
“My overall goal is to see everything working cohesively, working together to serve our seniors in Durant,” Trent said.
Prior to joining the city staff, Trent earned more than 16 years of experience in community services at INCA, a nonprofit organization serving individuals in Atoka, Johnston, Marshall and Murray counties. Trent brings a plethora of knowledge to RCSAC, having worked as a community service director, coordinating community events, fundraisers and healthy aging programs.
“I think that I have a lot of knowledge to offer when it comes to seniors needs and making sure they are met,” Trent said. “I look forward to encouraging them to live their life to its fullest potential.”
In the near future, Trent plans to bring two existing plans to fruition, including a veterans wall in the dining area and a garden in the center’s greenhouse.
RCSAC is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 1421 Chuckwa Drive.
