Roger Eugene Zachry, 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed from this world peacefully on January 31, 2026, surrounded by family at home in Calera, Oklahoma. Roger was born on February 20, 1948, in Durant, Oklahoma, to Louis and Vivian Zachry, and spent all of his life deeply rooted in Bryan County he called home.
Roger graduated from Blue High School, and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army. He served with the 48th Infantry, and his time in service instilled in him a sense of duty and commitment that he carried throughout his life. After returning home, he became well known for his expertise and work ethic as the owner of Durant Muffler Shop. His friendly demeanor and willingness to help others were his trademarks.
On February 13, 1991, Roger married the love of his life, Patsy Sue Zachry, in Atoka, Oklahoma. Their union was a partnership that endured for over three decades. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home in Calera, Oklahoma, where they shared countless memories filled with love and family.
In addition to his family, Roger had a deep appreciation for antique cars, especially his 1955 Chevy Bel Air and his 1922 T-Bucket. Automobiles weren’t just a career; they were a hobby that brought him joy and camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts in several antique car clubs. He loved vacationing with his wife Patsy and family, especially to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Exploring new places and making memories with his grandkids and great-grandkids was his great delight. A member of the Bible Baptist Church of Durant, his faith guided him through life’s challenges.
Roger was a good-hearted, loveable, big teddy bear; a devoted family man, deeply dedicated to his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy, and his three cherished daughters: Connie Looney and her husband Don, Karen McDonough and her husband Bill, and Kathy Crawford, all living nearby in Calera.
Roger was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Lynnsie Downs and husband Brandon of Calera, Morgan Hudgins and husband Kody of Bennington, Taylor Howell and husband Seth of Calera, Tanner Barton and wife Candice of Calera, Aaron Barton and wife Katherine of Caddo, Shelby England of Denison, Texas, Caleb McDonough of Davis, Okla., Josh McDonough of Calera, Dylan Looney and wife Makayla of Wynnewood, Okla., and Destry Looney of Kingston. Roger also was blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren: Jayden, Rogan, and Tritt Hudgins, Payden and Korbin Downs, Clancee, Charlee, Conway and Coe Howell, Jaxen Barton, Sophie Clure, Kenlynn Steward, Kade McDonough, and Finley and Kash Looney.
He took immense joy in spending time with his family, sharing stories and creating a legacy of love that will endure through generations. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Vivian Lorene (Prentice) Zachry; his brothers Ronnie Zachry and Robert Zachry; nephews Bobby Zachry, Randy Zachry, and Michael Zachry; his grandson Dustin Ballard; and son-in-law Dean Crawford.
