Rhetta Joann Norton of Durant, 70, passed away on November 4, 2023 at her home surrounded by family and loved ones. Rhetta was born in Wilson, Oklahoma on May 25, 1953. She was the daughter of Otis Dale and Wanda Gaye Lesley.
Rhetta loved her family, and her numerous dogs and would do anything in the world for them. You definitely didn’t mess with her family or else she would take care of it. She and David set their roots in Durant, Oklahoma. Strong-willed and hardworking, she helped set up a successful construction business alongside her husband.
Rhetta was a loving mother and grandmother. She was the best that anyone could hope for and look up to. She will be greatly missed and cherished.
She is preceded in death by her parents Otis and Wanda of Fox, Oklahoma; sister Linda of Fox, Oklahoma; brother Robert Dale of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and her husband, the love of her life, David Norton or Durant, Oklahoma.
Rhetta is survived by her sister Vera and Bob Lucas of Fox, Okla.; her children Jennifer Ellis and Oscar Turman of Ardmore, Okla., Vera LaDell Chandler and Justin Lockler of Durant, Okla., Matt and Shacole Leake of Durant, Okla., Brandy and Boyd Mays of Ala., Billy and Athena Watkins of Durant, Okla., Jason and Ashely Norton of Durant, Okla., Linda Cross of Clinton, Okla., Paula Howell of Georgia, Erika Rodriquez of Georgia, Matt Norton of Texas; 23 grandchildren and four great grandchildren with two more on the way.
A family visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Gordon Funeral Home in Durant, Okla. 
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Gordon Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.
