Remona Bourne

Remona Bourne, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and devoted daughter of her Lord Jesus Christ, left this life on October 24, 2019 at the age of 82.

Remona Fern Hughes was born in Macomb, Okla. to Wilbur Alberta Hughes and Mabel Leoma (Waldrup) Hughes on Nov. 30, 1936. She married the love of her life William A. Bourne on Dec. 19, 1953 in Tishomingo, Okla.

Remona was an active member of Armstrong Baptist Church and dedicated member of the Durant community for 63 years. She strongly believed in sharing her knowledge and time with others through state, county and local OHCE clubs. Remona enjoyed teaching 4-H participants etiquette, canning, baking, bread making and sewing, and adult financial literacy classes. She loved to create things with her hands; cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. Remona was a gifted and passionate master gardener, many said she grew the best peaches in Bryan county.

Mrs. Bourne is survived by her beloved William of the home; cherished children: Arnold Bourne of Durant, Okla., Deborah Layton and husband Steve of Durant, Okla., Mike Bourne and wife Carla of Atoka, Okla., Terry Bourne and wife Lynette of Durant, Okla., and Robert Bourne and wife Penny of Durant, Okla. Remona was very proud of her 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings, Larry Hughes and wife Carolyn of California, Mo., Juanita Bourne and husband Don of Durant, Okla., Anita Ray of Wayne, Okla., and George Hughes and wife Nancy of Asher, Okla., and a host of nephews, nieces, family, and dear friends.

Mrs. Bourne was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Mabel Hughes; and brother, Wilbur Doyle Hughes and sister, Lila Stanfield.

A celebration in honor of her amazing life will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at the Armstrong Baptist Church in Armstrong, Oklahoma with Mike Calhoun officiating. Remona’s final resting place will be the Highland Cemetery in Durant with her grandchildren as her pallbearers.
