Regional transportation meeting to be held in Durant

Release

DURANT – A regional transportation meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 26, from 1-2 p.m. at the SODA Conference Center, located at 2704 N. First Ave, in Durant. Key stakeholders will gather to discuss future transportation initiatives and infrastructure improvements. This meeting aims to address the region’s transportation needs and plan for sustainable development. Community members and local officials are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussions.

The Southeastern Regional Transportation Planning Organization (SERTPO) was established under the Southern Oklahoma Development Association (SODA) to oversee regional transportation planning across ten counties in southern and central Oklahoma. In October 2023, the Kiamichi Economic Development District of Oklahoma (KEDDO) joined SERTPO, extending its coverage to include seven more counties, encompassing the entirety of Southeastern Oklahoma.

SERTPO’s Transportation Policy Board, consisting of representatives from various stakeholders, provides policy guidance, while the Transportation Technical Committee offers technical expertise. One of the primary functions of SERTPO is to develop a regional Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) that addresses transportation goals and strategies for the next 20 years. As a Regional Transportation Planning Organization (RTPO), SERTPO is tasked with understanding local transportation needs, coordinating planning efforts, working with government partners, facilitating public participation, providing technical assistance, and assisting with Department of Transportation initiatives.

We strongly encourage community members and local officials to attend this important meeting. Your input is invaluable in shaping the future of our region’s transportation infrastructure. By participating, you can help ensure that our transportation system meets the needs of all residents and supports sustainable development.

If you are unable to attend in person, you can still participate by completing an online survey at www.SERTPO.org. Additionally, more in-person meetings will be held throughout the region this year, providing further opportunities for you to share your insights and contribute to the planning process. Join us in making a difference for the future of Southeastern Oklahoma’s transportation network.
