Rayna Schonauer

Rayna L. Schonauer was born Saturday, April 13, 1940 in Plainview, Texas, to Alvis and Rachel (Moore) Peacock. She passed from this life on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at the age of 82, surrounded by family and loved ones.

As a young girl, Rayna grew up in the small town of Petersburg, Texas where she attended and graduated school in 1958. She was involved in many different organizations such as: FHA, FFA, Basketball, Band President, Co-Editor of Annual, Class Officer and member of the Student Council. She was also actively involved with the Petersburg Riding Club where she spent many days on horseback with friends and family.

After graduation, she attended Lubbock Christian College where she participated in the LCC Choir, then later graduated from Grayson County College with a degree in Nursing on May 13, 1979. Rayna and her family moved to Durant in 1978 where she found a home within the Church of Christ family. She began working as a Registered Nurse for the next 27 years with the Bryan Memorial Hospital and then later, the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. Rayna worked her way up from Medical-Surgical nurse to House Supervisor to Staff Development Director before retiring in 2006. She married Alvin Schonauer in 2011 in Durant, he preceded her in death on March 14, 2015.

After retirement, Rayna stayed busy with multiple hobbies and ministries through her Church family. She enjoyed tending to her garden, photography, sewing, Genealogy/Ancestry research, crafting jewelry and traveling with family. She would often travel to historic sites related to her genealogy research as well as explore National Parks and hidden waterfalls. Rayna also had a passion for volunteering and serving for the Northwest Church Feeders group, Durant COC Check-in, Sit-n-Sew, Widows and Single Ladies Ministry and taught the Ladies Bible Class at Durant Church of Christ.

Rayna had a beautiful smile, a love for adventure, a love for her family but mostly; her love for the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Rory Shaun Vickers.

Rayna is survived by her son, David Vickers and his wife, Sherry of Lenexa, Kan.; daughter, Tanya Vickers-Horne of Paradise, Texas; grandsons: Jeffrey Rogers and his wife, Alyssa of Calera, Okla., and Steffen Teague and his wife, Dana of Olathe, Kan.; granddaughters: Laura Vickers of Overland Park, Kan., Haley Horne of Paradise, Texas, Taylor Vickers of Kansas City, Mo., and Madison Horne of Paradise, Texas; great grandchildren: Noah Rogers, Liam Teague, McKellen Teague, Aliyah Fields, Jayda Fields, Tatum Fields, Ciandra Vickers, Ce’liyah Johnson, and Duane Kelly Johnson II.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023 at Brown’s Funeral Home.

Memorial services to celebrate Rayna’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023 at Brown’s Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Logan Cates officiating.
