DURANT – For the third year, the Pride of Durant will host a Pie Auction fundraiser.
Back at the Choctaw Nation Event Center for the second time (a scheduling conflict had the event at DHS in 2016), the community will have an opportunity to help raise money for one of, if not the most, decorated organizations in Bryan County. And at the same time, those who participate will be able to take home desserts and more from band parents and local businesses.
Mary Whitmire, one of the co-presidents of the Band Boosters for this year explained that the band members or their families donate either one baked good or one craft item and we have an auctioneer come in and auctions off each item.
“There will be tables set up and everything will be numbered,” Whitmire said. “The items will also have a description taken down so we can keep up with what is what. And when people come up to look, they can see what they will be bidding on, something also like a silent auction.
Whitmire invited everybody, and anybody who supports the band to come out for the evening.
“The kids will perform at the beginning of the event to break the ice a little bit,” Whitmire said. “Then they will show the items off and walk among everyone to so they can see.
“We have had fun in the past two years. The kids are excited about it and it’s just a different kind of fundraiser.”
The Pie Auction is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with the music from the band, and the auction itself should start at about 6:20. However, those who may want to drop off items or view them early may have the opportunity to do so around 4:30 p.m. The evening should last until around 8:30.
Those who want to donate but can’t or won’t make the event can go online to www.prideofdurant.com and click Donate Now.
