City of Durant
DURANT – In less than a month, street expansion construction will officially begin on University Boulevard in Durant.
“We’ve been looking forward to this project and are eager to get started,” said City Engineer Brandon Wall.
Starting Monday, Oct. 4, the 240-day project will include expanding the roadway from two lanes to three and adding a center turn lane. Drainage, traffic signalization and sidewalks are also part of the project.
Phase 1 will begin at Gates and extend eastward to just east of University Place. This phase is approximately seven city blocks or 2,100 linear feet.
Phase 2 will begin at Radio Road and extend eastward to just west of Westside Drive. This phase is approximately two city blocks or 600 linear feet.
“I’m excited to be managing the University Boulevard project and I know it will turn out well for business owners,” said Clint Braly, Schiralli Construction Corp. project manager.
Non-traffic impeding preparations are underway now leading up to the start of the project. They include relocating utilities on road shoulders and right-of-ways.
Crews will start Phase 1 of the construction at the westernmost side of the project area at Larkspur Lane and work eastward.
The project, stated to be approximately $3.1 million, is expected to be completed in early Spring or Summer 2022.
