Patricia Joan Norton, 84, of Kingston, Okla., passed away on Nov. 15, 2020 in Durant, Okla. She was born on Dec. 27, 1935 in Cedar Grove, Okla. to the late Cal West and Viola Wilson West.
Joan was the 11th child out of 13 and played basketball in school and was the Valedictorian at graduation. She attended college where she learned to speak Korean and Farsi.
Joan worked from 1954 to 1958 at Ada Welfare Department, 1958-1963 for the U.S. government in the United States Operation Missions Office while living in Iran and later South Korea. She moved back to Oklahoma City where she met and married Charles Norton on July 1, 1968 and he preceded her in death in January 2016.
They moved to Sulphur, Oklahoma where Joan worked at McCarley Oldsmobile and Forson Plumbing before she retired. In 2007, they moved to the Baptist Village in Madill.
Joan loved reading, sewing, embroidery, baking, cooking, and listening to old classic songs. She had a very good, long life from start to finish.
She is survived by a daughter, Lucinda Shipley and husband Mike of Kingston, Okla.; son, Ricky G. Norton of Davis, Okla.; grandsons: Richard Norton of Davis, Okla., Lane Shipley and wife Amy of Okinawa, Japan; Dilan Shipley and Madee of Hohenfels, Germany; Neeson Shipley of Kingston, Okla., Jamon Shipley, Kingston, Okla.; granddaughter, Felicity Palmer of Kingston, Okla.; great-grandsons: Jaxxon Palmer and Laken Palmer of Kingston, Okla., Teddy Shipley of Okinawa, Japan; great-granddaughter: Emmaline Shipley of Okinawa, Japan; brothers: Wayne West of Kingston, Okla., Kenneth West of Shawnee, Okla.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband and one son: Glenn A. Norton.
