Norman Maurice Hunkapiller was born on April 29, 1944 in Amarillo, Texas to Noel Mack and Aliene (Ingram) Hunkapiller. Norman passed away on Sept. 8, 2018 at his home in Calera, Okla. at the age of 74.

Norman graduated from Pala Duro High School in Amarillo and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. On August 8, 1964, Norman married the love of his life, Nawana Vibbard. They were blessed with 54 years and two children, Todd and Tammy. They moved to Durant in 1983 from Sherman and together they owned and operated the Office Store until their retirement. Norman was a member of Victory Life Church and a former member of the Durant Elks Lodge and Durant Country Club. Norman enjoyed playing golf, traveling, camping and yard work. But most of all he loved and treasured his family.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Aliene Hunkapiller and sister in law, Glenda Hunkapiller.

Norman is survived by his wife, Nawana Hunkapiller of the home; son, Michael Todd Hunkapiller of Calera; daughter, Tammy Lynn Hunkapiller of Calera; grandchildren, Robbie Heurtevant, Lynsie Patton and Mandi Brown; great grandchildren, Kamden Heurtevant, Kayzlee Heurtevant and Ackley Morris; brother, Warren Hunkapiller; sister, Joy Holloway and husband Jess; nieces and nephews, Terri Read and husband Steve, Carri Sorg and husband Dave, Mark Holloway and wife Cindy and Sherri Daniels and husband Richard and numerous extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Randy Mayfield of Victory Life Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Todd Hunkapiller, Butch Arnett, Jess Holloway, George Butler, Franky Halbrooks and Jim Huskey serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.
