Mary B. Smith

Funeral services for Mary B. Smith will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Boswell, Okla. with Pastor Dean Young officiating. Mary went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2018, in Paris, Texas at the age of 87.

Mary was born to William Jackson Pillars and Gladys (Smith) Pillars on June 13, 1931 in Soper, Okla. She married Marshall Smith on Dec. 23, 1949 in De Queen, Ark. Mary graduated from Soper High School in 1950. Marshall and Mary always worked together raising cattle, which they did throughout their 60-plus years of marriage. Many people will remember seeing Marshall and Mary in the blue (multi-colored) pick-up, loaded with hay in the winter months, headed to feed their cattle. Mary also spoiled Marshall (and her kids and grandkids) with her wonderful cooking skills. She was famous for her fried chicken, creamed potatoes, chicken and dressing, and homemade candies. Mary baked (from scratch) cornbread or biscuits with every meal. She was very active in the Boswell Extension Homemakers for several years. She served as a Choctaw County Fair canning superintendent for many years. Later in their marriage, Marshall and Mary enjoyed their travels with the Senior Citizens of the Choctaw Nation on their trips visiting Mississippi, Branson, and Washington, D.C. Mary was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church.

Greeting her in Heaven were her husband, Marshall, her parents, Will and Gladys, her granddaughter, Wendy Smith, her brother, Bill Pillars and sister-in-law, Faye Pillars. A special little companion, Precious, was certainly standing there waiting for Mary, wagging her little tail.

Mary is survived by sons, Marshall Smith, Jr. of Boswell, Ronnie Smith of Hugo, Gary Smith and wife, Denise, of Boswell, and daughter, Linda Woolbright of Boswell. Brother Garland Pillars and wife, Sue, of Beaver, Okla. and sister, Donie Pillars of Greenwood, La. Brother-in-law Pete Mixon of Allen, Texas. Grandchildren, Kevin Smith and wife, Jennifer, of Oak Point, Texas, Scott Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lindsey Smith of Durant, Cole Smith and wife, Jamie, of Boswell, Dalton Smith and wife, Paige, of Durant. Great-children: Tristan Smith of Durant, Shyla Smith, Skyla Smith, and Nyla Smith, all of Oklahoma City, Landon Marshall Smith of Oak Point, Texas, and several nieces and nephews and dear friends.

We couldn’t have asked for a better mama, granny, and mom-in-law…

The family will receive friends on Monday July 2, 2018, at 6-7 p.m., at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo, Okla.
