Norma Kay (Wilson) Byfield

Norma Kay (Wilson) Byfield, of Rosharon, Texas, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, died in her home on May 16, 2021. Norma was born Oct. 6, 1962 to Norman and Delores Wilson in Durant, Okla.
Norma graduated from Bokchito High School on May 15, 1980. After high school, she completed a two-year Secretarial program at Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s in 1982. On March 12, 1983, Norma married the late Steve Byfield at First Baptist Church in Bokchito, Okla. Norma was employed as the secretary at Kiamichi Area Vo-Tech Practical Nursing School in Durant, Okla. from 1983-85, and the couple then moved to Texas to work and make their home.

Norma worked at Mitsui U.S.A in Houston as a logistics coordinator for a number of years until her retirement in 2017.

Norma had a great love for life and enjoyed experiencing everything she possibly could. Norma enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and traveling with Steve and their children. She took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren, reading to and playing with them. Her family and friends will always remember Norma as a beautiful, gentle, kind and loving woman that always put her family first and loved with all she had.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Delores Wilson in 2010, and husband, Stephen (Steve) Byfield in 2018.

Norma is survived by her father, Norman Wilson of Bokchito, Okla.; daughter, Kayla and husband Jacob Dawson and grandchildren Kayden Malcolm Dawson and Krystalynn Gail Dawson, all of Rosharon, Texas; son, Kyle Byfield and granddaughter Brexli Anna Byfield of Wichita, Kan.; brothers: Norman D. (Judy) Wilson of Lubbock, Texas, Neville (Lynn) Wilson of North Branch, Minn., Myron (Susie) Wilson of Bokchito, Okla.; sister in-law, Nelita (David) Cash of Muskogee, Okla. and brother in-law, Stan (Nancy) Byfield of Richmond, Va., and also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Norma’s family invites you to come visit between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, at Brown’s Funeral Home, located at 4900 W. Highway 70, Durant, Okla.

A celebration of Norma’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 26, at 2 p.m. also at Brown’s Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Bokchito Cemetery in Bokchito, Okla., with Norman D. Wilson, Neville Wilson, Myron Wilson, Jacob Dawson serving as pallbearers and Honorary pallbearer Kayden Dawson.

Services are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant.
