DURANT – The bridge over Mineral Bayou on State Highway 78 in southern Durant in the latest to receive a makeover treatment.
The Bryan County Emergency Management reported the intentions of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation on Friday evening and work began early Sunday morning.
The work involved includes sandblasting, cleaning, painting and recoating the underside of the bridge.
The bridge, just south of Leonard Morgan Park, will be shut down to one lane of traffic with a flag man to help control the traffic over the next few weeks, according to BCEM.
SH 78 through Durant already has bridge work in progress, with the bridge over Chuckwa out until August.
ODOT also has plans to do further upgrades on SH 78 between Durant and Achille, tentatively scheduled for 2020 and 2021.
