Mikie Webb was born Nov. 29, 1933 in Kenefic, Okla. to Mike and Allie Webb. He passed from this world Feb. 1, 2021 at the age of 87. As the youngest boy of 13 children, he learned the value of a dollar in a cotton field. Mikie had no claim to fortune or fame, but he painted his masterpiece. He was successful in his quest to provide a better life for his wife and children.
Mikie married Johnnie Lee Griffin on June 28, 1952. They shared more than 60 years, four children, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren until her passing in 2012. If you speak of him, you must speak of her. He loved her until his last breath.
Mikie and Johnnie graced the bleachers at every baseball/softball field and basketball gym in Durant and competitive areas. They were front row center at every school activity and awards assembly in which their children were involved. They didn’t travel to exotic isles or gamble on the risky chance of riches, but they did chase the “American Dream” of family and a better life. They grabbed that dream by the tail. The legacy they leave behind will be stamped on generations to come.
Mikie began his career at Babcock Bros. at age 17 and remained there as manager until his retirement 37 years later. His was a well-known face at the local fairgrounds as Superintendent for many years after. He had a passion for restoring cars and all of his children can say, “Daddy always let me drive.” Mikie was an honorable man, a loyal friend, a devoted husband, and a hands-on dad. His family will do well to live up to the example he set as a human being.
Mikie was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandparents, 12 siblings, and most of his friends. His world became very small in the last years of his life, but he clung to it with an admirable tenacity. The strength and resilience he displayed in his ability to say goodbye to so many of those he loved and still find joy in little things speaks to his character.
Mikie is survived by son, Bill Webb and wife Bonnie of Durant; daughters, Brenda Webb of the home, Beverly Meade and husband Carl, and Angela Welborn and husband David, all of Durant; grandchildren: Matt Webb and wife Kelly of Tulsa, Ryan Webb and wife Yvette of Broken Arrow, Hollie Peace of Holdenville, Josh Weaver and wife Kimberly of Kenefic, Kevin Adams and wife D’Lynn of Flower Mound, Texas, Kody Adams and wife Kayla of Blue, Chase Stafford and wife Elizabeth of Durant, Colin Stafford of Durant, Cassie Meade of Durant, Zaylee Mead of Durant, and Sean Welborn and wife Erlane of Paris, Texas; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Faye Griffin of Garland, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many cherished friends.
Family hour will be from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021 at the Highland Cemetery in Durant with Pastor Jesse West officiating.
The service will be available for viewing on our Facebook page at the start of the service. The family has requested that everyone please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Honorary pallbearers are grandsons Matt Webb, Ryan Webb, Josh Weaver, Kevin Adams, Kody Adams, Chase Stafford, Colin Stafford, and Sean Welborn.
