Michael Jones

Michael Roy Jones was born on April 12, 1971, and loved by his parents, Bryant and Heather Jones. He passed from this life on October 5, 2023. Michael Jones was raised in Caddo, Okla. He was one of the lucky ones because he had the privilege of living next door to his grandparents. He loved to hunt and fish and play football for the Caddo Bruins.

After high school, Michael enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country from 1990-1994. Michael suffered an injury and was medically discharged in 1994.

After serving his country, Michael went back to college to earn his degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla. He took great pride and effort into fulfilling this task. Things were a little tougher for him than most students, but he never let that stand in his way. It was once said that it took Michael two hours just to get himself ready at home before heading to class. He persevered through that obstacle and accomplished the goal of finishing his degree.

In college, Michael met his best friend, Joe Wayne Sirmans, who enjoyed hunting as much as Michael did. These two were thick as thieves and not only enjoyed hunting together but camping and basically anything involving the outdoors. Over the years, Joe Wayne became more of a brother to Michael. He truly cherished Joe Wayne’s friendship. Michael started his professional career teaching school but found passion working in Veteran Affairs. He assisted other veterans and military personnel with finding employment after serving in the military. Michael had a true gift with animals. He had the patience to train just about anything. He trained his dog and companion, Roxy with German commands. She was so smart and listened to no one, but Michael. He also rescued and trained three squirrels. Michael built a beautiful home in Hartshorne, Okla., and was so excited to host the large Jones family Christmas there.

He loved his loud, loving family. He enjoyed holiday time and getting together to watch football. He spent many holidays at his Grandmother Jones’ house and enjoyed eating her mini pecan pies. Michael took most pride in being the father to Austin. He would beam with delight when talking about Austin and his accomplishments in the police force. He was overjoyed when Austin got married and became a dad and made him a grandfather.

Michael is preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Marcelle Jones, Authur and Ina Gornall, and life-long friend, Joe Wayne Sirmans.

Michael is survived by his son, Austin and Christina and grandson, Deuce; parents, Bryant and Heather Jones; brothers, Doug and Robbie Roberts; aunts, Brenda and husband Ross Doyle, Beverly Jones and husband Steve Olinghouse, Beth and husband Roger Griffin, Barbara and husband Kenny Wood and Betty and (late) husband Russell Flowers. He leaves behind many cousins, friends and loved ones to cherish his memory.

Funeral services are Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the Methodist Church in Caddo, Okla. Burial with honors will be at Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo directly after services.
