Maudie Jewel Anderson of Calera, Okla., passed away Saturday June 18, 2022, at the age of 101. She was born on June 4, 1921, to Robert Boswell Thompson and Maude Agusta (Houk) Thompson in Durant, Okla. Maudie married L.B. Anderson on May 20, 1940, in Boswell, Okla.
Maudie graduated from Durant, Okla. in 1939. Vocally talented, she was a member of the Durant High School chorus that traveled by train in 1939 to perform in Baltimore and Washington D.C. In the 1950s, she and two other ladies formed “The Melody Trio” in Hugo, Okla. They performed religious songs at churches and various community events.
After marrying her husband, L.B., they lived in Boswell, Okla., for a time and then moved to Hugo, Okla. in 1944 where they opened a John Deere dealership. They remained in business until retiring and moving to Durant, Okla. in 1979. Maudie was very engaged in various volunteer programs including the Senior Citizens Center where she decorated the Center’s dining tables for special events and occasionally called Bingo games. She also volunteered for the RSVP, Election Board, and the Bryan County Blood Drives. She also remained active in singing for various events until her health began to fail. Maudie was a member of the Clayton Avenue Baptist Church in Hugo.
She is survived by her son Robert Anderson of Durant, Okla.
Preceding Maudie in death were her parents, Robert Boswell Thompson and Maude Agusta (Houk) Thompson; husband, L.B. Anderson; brothers, Haskell F. Thompson and Woodrow Thompson; sisters, Willie A. Lee, Virginia Nell Watson, and June Etta Seago.
