Mask mandate removed for Durant schools

BRYAN COUNTY – The Durant ISD sent out a message Wednesday afternoon announcing a change in policy for the remainder of the school year.

Duane Meredith, Superintendent of Schools, said the mask mandate for the district has been rescinded, starting Thursday. Mask-wearing will remain an option

“I am excited to let you know that Bryan County has reached the Covid-19 risk level status of green,” Merideth said. “Per our district COVID Plan, we will now remove the mask requirement effective tomorrow, May 13. All other COVID-19 protocols will remain in place until the end of June.

“Wearing a mask will now be optional for faculty, staff and students.

We greatly appreciate your support and cooperation during this past year and especially appreciate the hard work and dedication of the district personnel and the staff at the Bryan County Health Department for the numerous extra hours they put forth in keeping our campuses a safe place to learn. Again, effective tomorrow, May 13, Durant ISD will no longer require masks to be worn.”
