Marshall Oliver Cathey Sr., 82, of Sherman, Texas, passed from this life on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Texoma Christian Care Center in Wichita Falls, Texas, Wichita County, Texas. Marshall was born on Wednesday, December 2, 1942, in Encino, New Mexico to Bill Oliver and Flora Leona (Hyde) Cathey.
He attended schools at Boggy Depot, Tushka, and graduated from Bokchito High School in 1958. He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University before enlisting in the U. S. Army where he served for two years at Fort Huachuca in Arizona.
Marshall’s first love was rodeo where he rode bulls until the bulls won. Once his rodeo career was finished, he pursued his second love of horses. Working as a jockey, trainer and farrier, many miles were spent running up and down the road to rodeos, horse races and shoeing horses. After his many years of chasing dreams, Marshall transitioned into a career of construction. He worked as a carpenter and moved on up to a general foreman position for multi larger construction companies in north Texas and southern Oklahoma area. His mind for numbers and angles was amazing. He could read a blue print and tell you the problem areas or pitfalls in a matter of seconds.
He was a believer in Jesus Christ and accepted Him as his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed a good game of dominoes, playing cards, playing pool, or just sitting around and swapping stories.
Marshall is survived by his sons, Billy Dean Tuck (husband Tim Brown) of Dallas, Texas and Marshall O. Cathey Jr. (wife Sharlote) of Denison, Texas and their children Hunter (wife Emily), Cooper and Kensler. He is also survived by brothers, Roy Dean Cathey of Northern California and a sister Madge McKay of Wichita Falls, Texas. And by many nephews and nieces who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Oliver Cathey and mother, Flora Leona Cathey; step-brothers, Floyd and Billy Cathey, T.A. Willeby and sisters Billie Ann Pettett and Dovie Gregory.
