Marcella Liesbeth Rainbolt, a cherished mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, in Denison, Texas, at the age of 92. She was born on January 15, 1933, in San Diego, California, to George and Liesbeth (Kuhring) Schurig. After meeting Joe Rainbolt at church, they were married on July 24, 1953, in Chula Vista, California.
Following her marriage, Marcella began working for the Bank of America after attending business school. She was a working mother, caring for her family while holding a career. Relocating to Oklahoma in 1980, she became a proofreader for the Durant Democrat, where her eye for detail was highly valued. Later, she served as the secretary for the music department at Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU), where she combined her administrative talents with her passion for music.
Marcella’s musical gifts were a source of joy not only for her but for all who had the pleasure of hearing her play. As a pianist for the Durant First Baptist Church, she touched the hearts of congregants with her beautiful renditions of hymns and spiritual songs. She also served her church by leading the younger children’s choir. Her dedication to her community was evident through her long-standing role as the pianist for the Durant Kiwanis Club. Beyond her formal roles as a pianist, Marcella played the piano as a pastime for her own enjoyment. She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles keeping her mind active.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Rainbolt of San Diego, Calif., and Darryl Rainbolt of Durant, Okla.; her daughter, Susan Williams and her husband, Robert, of Trenton, Texas; her sister, Judy Brunelle and her husband, Randy, of Diamond Bar, Calif., and sister-in-law, Hedy Schurig of Nampa, Idaho, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
