Lynn Skocdopole

Lynn Skocdopole, of Durant, Okla., passed from this life on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the age of 68. He was born on Saturday, July 12, 1952 in Pryor, Okla., to Vance Leonard and Maxine Lyndale (Finley) Skocdopole.

Lynn married Renee Louise (Owen) on May 15, 1980 in Okmulgee, Okla.

He was a dedicated member of many organizations including the Masons, Eastern Star, York Rite, VFW, American Legion, DAV, and Friends of the Library group.

He was a proud member of the United States Army achieving the rank of Sergeant. He entered the military right out of high school. Lynn was deployed to Vietnam as a scout dog handler where he saw combat while there from 1971-1972. He received many commendations some of which include: The Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Air Metal and Sharpshooter. He also served as Military Police and a Scout Dog Trainer.

After he left the Army, Lynn obtained an Associates Degree in Electronics Engineering from OSU Tech in Okmulgee, Okla. When Lynn and his family moved to Durant, Okla., Lynn attended OTR Truck Driving school. He drove cross-country for many years until retiring to stay home and volunteer his time in his community. When asked about VFW he mentioned that they are like having a Band of Brothers type of community where they help Veterans fill many gaps. He had such a calling to help as much as he could without asking for anything in return.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vance Leonard and Maxine Lyndale (Finley) Skocdopole and a brother, Robin Skocdopole.

Survivors include his wife, Renee of the home; son, Stephen and wife Charla of Broken Arrow, Okla.; daughters: Lara Tolbert and husband Brad of Mead, Okla., Nicole Tunnell and husband Kedrin of Broken Arrow, Okla.; brothers: Finley Skocdopole and wife Pat of Lillian, Ala., Gary Skocdopole and wife Raynelle of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren: Madyson Tolbert, Makayla Tunnell, Logan Tunnell, C.J., Cole, Carter and Cain as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

A come and go family hour will be from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Gordon Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the Silo Baptist Church in Silo, Okla.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 2, 2021 the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Okla. with military honors.
