Lucille Barnes

Dorthea Lucille Tipton Barnes was born August 2, 1928, in Folsom, Okla., to Anderson and Lena Tipton. Lucille passed from this life to her eternal home on May 31, 2023, in Bowie, Texas.

Lucille was married to Earnest Barnes on June 29, 1952, in Durant, Okla. To this marriage was born two sons: Andy Barnes and Kim Barnes. They were her pride and joy.

Lucille worked many jobs. She taught school, drove a truck with her husband for several years and her last job was 13 years with the First United Bank in Durant, Okla..

She was a 69-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She held nearly every office in her chapter. She also served as a Grand Representative of Oklahoma in Iowa and she visited the Grand Chapter of the state of Iowa in 2014. She was an active member of the Durant, Colbert, and Calera Chapters in Oklahoma and Bowie and St. Jo Chapters in Texas.

Lucille was a member of the Folsom Free Will Baptist Church but financially supported several churches and ministries she loved dearly.

Lucille and her son, Kim, took several cruises together and she had lots of happy hours traveling and visiting family and friends with Kim and Cathy.

She enjoyed watching her great-granddaughter, Carson, play basketball and volleyball.

Lucille is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Cathy Barnes of Bowie. Texas; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Becky and Todd Matlock of Bowie, Texas; great granddaughter, Carson Matlock of Bowie, Texas; step-grandson, Cyler Matlock of Bowie, Texas; sister-in-law, Lillian Tipton of Lubbock, Texas; daughter-in-law, Debbie Barnes and her daughters, Nickie and Amanda, and their children. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and very special friends and sisters and brothers of her Eastern Star family.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Barnes; son, Andy Barnes; parents, Anderson and Lena Tipton; three brothers: Ernie Tipton, Donald Tipton, and Dwight Tipton; and two sisters: Estelle Daniel and Lois Crow.

Lucille never met a stranger and could talk your hat off! Her love of God and family was awesome. She will be missed by all.

Services for Lucille will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Trinity Life Church, 15040 Hwy. 48 in Kenefic, Okla. Bro. Randy Tadlock will be officiating.

Family hour will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday,June 5, 2023, at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.

Pallbearers: David Daniel, W.C. Daniel, Jearl Tipton, Tony Tipton, Todd Matlock, and Chad Stanley
