DURANT – Since the inception of a unique partnership, seven undergraduate students from Southeastern Oklahoma State University have been accepted into the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The 3 + 1 partnership program allows students to become a Doctor of Osteopathic medicine (D.O.) in seven years instead of the typical eight years, saving them time and financial resources.
“We are very proud of our students who have participated in this program,’’ said Dr. Teresa Golden, vice president for academic affairs at Southeastern. “It is a partnership that truly benefits students and helps pave the way for a path into the field of medicine.’’
The program includes three years of undergraduate study at Southeastern and matriculates to OSU-COM in the fourth year as the first year medical student. SE will grant a bachelor’s degree to the 3 + 1 program student who successfully completes the first-year medical school study.
The SE undergraduates who have been accepted into OSU-COM are Dr. Patrick Sharp (‘17) from Bixby, Oklahoma; Morgan O’Hern (‘20), Durant; Jensen Simmons (‘21), Calera; Blake Barron (‘21), Durant; Marli Nagel (’22), Clayton, Oklahoma; Jonathan Ritter (‘24) from Atoka; and Juan Montes (‘24) from Durant.
