Leslie Gale Baker, 57, of Achille, Okla., passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at his residence, with his family near him. Leslie was born on Sept. 16, 1963, in Durant, Okla., to Less Monroe and Marilyn Sliger Baker.
In 1996, he married Kathryn King in Denison, Texas. He was an assembling mechanic in the automotive division for Caterpillar. He was a high school graduate and of the Baptist faith. Above everything that he enjoyed his family was his No. 1 love. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Les was a lover of God’s nature and creatures–a love second only to the infinite love he had for his family. A devoted son, father, husband and Papa, he could frequently be found tending to his garden or in the garage tinkering with anything that ran. And if it didn’t run, he sure could make it.
A man with many skills but reserved with his words, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. On the rare occasion he did speak, he imparted wisdom on those wise enough to listen. When he wasn’t fishing or cooking up a t-bone steak for his dog, you could find him taking a long drive through the backroads–windows down, music up.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathryn Baker of their home; mother, Marilyn Baker of Achille, Okla.; children: Mitch Baker of Rowlett, Texas, Brani Payne and Scott of Laredo, Texas, Melody Smith and Kristen of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; Taylor, Shelby, Macey, Jaxon, Harley, Sloane, and Andrew; other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Less Monroe Baker in 2013.
A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, July 1, 2021, 11 a.m. at East Baptist Church in Denison, Texas with Brother Brett Castle officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Achille, Okla.
Family and friends visitation will be Wednesday, June 30, 2021, 6-8 p.m. at American Funeral Service in Denison, Texas. Pallbearers will be Bryan Baker, Scott Payne, Jaxon Payne, Cody King, Eli Carter, Shawn Cline & Branden Peters.
