LaVerne Eloise (Johnson) Maddox of Durant, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the age of 102 in Atoka, Oklahoma. She was born on April 7, 1923, in Colbert, Oklahoma to Robert and Verdia (Watts) Johnson.
She was a long-time member of Victory Life Church in Durant, Oklahoma. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Left behind to cherish LaVerne’s memory are her son Bobby Wells of Durant, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Mickey Pratt, Cynthia Kelly, Brian Kelly, Jesse Lewis, Lacretia Lewis, Travis Lewis, Tommy Wells, Yolonda Wells, Sara Wells, Connie Davis, Jim Box, along with several great grandchildren.
Preceding LaVerne in death are her parents Robert and Verdie Johnson; her sisters: Thelma, Doris, Catherine, and Joy; her brothers: Leonard and Harold; along with her children: Joyce Massangle, Carolyn Kelly, Ann Lewis, and LaVonda Winstom.
Family hour will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 6-8 p.m., at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 10 a.m., at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lee Armstrong officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma with Jesse Lewis, Mickey Pratt, Randy Johnson, Travis Lewis, Brian Kelly, and Brandon Johnson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Johnson and Bobby Wells.
Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
