Larry Mitchell of Durant, Oklahoma passed on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on Tuesday, April 6, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Juanita “Mama Bear” (Powell) and Willis “Bear” Eugene Mitchell.
He was a longtime resident of Durant, Oklahoma. He proudly served in the U.S. Airforce from 1968-1972 and was a Pararescue (PJ) Specialist. He also did two tours in Vietnam. He worked as a service officer for AM Vets. Larry married Deborah “Debbie” Lynn (Niblett) on August 18, 1983 in Durant, Oklahoma.
Larry was an avid hunter, and he also enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Juanita “Mama Bear” (Powell) and Willis “Bear” Eugene Mitchell.
Survivors include his loving wife Debbie Mitchell of Durant, Oklahoma; son Larry “Butch” Mitchell and wife Melanie of Kansas; daughters Jennifer Carter and husband Rick of Pattonsburg, Missouri, Lisa Gonzalez; sister Pam Mitchell of Calera, Oklahoma; grandchildren Carson Mitchell, Cole Mitchell, Coy Mitchell and wife Abby of Kenefic, Oklahoma; Tyler Jones of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Anthony Jones of Pattonsburg, Missouri, Shelby Jones of Pattonsburg, Missouri, Stephen Loxterman of Pattonsburg, Missouri, Abigail Loxterman of Pattonsburg, Missouri, Wyatt Mitchell, Danilyn Mitchell; three great grandchildren Hazel Mitchell, A.J. Mitchell, Charlie Mitchell; nieces Brittany Hopkins and her children Jace, Zander, Cater, and Hollyn Hopkins, Alexis Lawless and husband Haskell and their children Brynlee, Hadley and Laney, Melanie McDonald, Ashleigh Williams; nephews Christian Hopkins and daughter Skyla, Mikey McDonald, Carl Niblett, III; sister-in-law Lori Cathcart and husband Aaron; numerous other nieces and nephews as well as other extended family and friends.
A family visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Gordon Funeral Home, located at 221 N. Third Ave. in Durant, Oklahoma.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma with Pastor Isreal Arnold officiating.
