DURANT – Tori Kilburn turned in a double-double and Kenzli Warden hit a career milestone as Southeastern rallied from 12-down to pick up a 60-56 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
The win is the seventh-straight for the Savage Storm who move to 12-11 overall on the season and 9-8 in Great American Conference play heading into a rescheduled Monday night contest against Northwestern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m. in Alva, Okla.
Warden got off to a slow start but eventually got the four points she needed to become the 17th player in SE women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points, eventually finishing the contest with 10 and pulling down seven rebounds.
Kilburn’s double-double led all players in both categories with 20 points on 6-of-16 shooting and 11 rebounds.
Akiera Hawk finished the game with nine, while Mackenzie Espinosa and Katie Allen turned in eight apiece.
Kilburn’s 11 rebounds led all players on the glass while Warden was next in line with seven.
Kilburn and Alen finished with four assists each to lead the Storm, while Kilburn added a game-high four blocked shots and snagged a pair of steals.
Espinosa scored the first points of the game and had five of the first 11 as her three with 7:00 to go in the first quarter put the Storm in front 11-4.
OBU chipped away at the Storm advantage over the final 6:40, outscoring SE 15-7 to take a 19-18 lead at the end of one.
The Bisons then reeled off the first six points of the second quarter, pushing its lead to 25-18 and eventually taking its largest lead of the night at 32-20 with 3:57 to go in the half.
The storm closed the half with some positive momentum, paring the deficit down to 35-27 at the break.
A Pair of Warden buckets to open the second half cut that deficit to four points, but OBU answered and would twice nudge their advantage back to 11 points, the last time coming with 3:01 remaining in the third quarter.
A pair of Kilburn free throws got the Storm back to within single digits and started a 7-0 run at the end of the period to close the gap to 48-44 after three quarters.
The Storm opened where they left off with the first seven points of the final frame, taking a 51-48 lead by the 7:32 mark.
OBU tied the game at 53-53, and twice more over the next three and a half minutes, with the last coming at 56-56 with 2:32 remaining.
A Kilburn bucket with 1:14 to play and a pair of free throws with six seconds left would secure the 60-56 win.
