Kevin Self

Kevin Self, of Caddo, Okla. passed from this life on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the age of 61 in Sherman, Texas. He was a light for all with his smile and friendly ways. He will be truly missed. He was born on Thursday, Sept. 1, 1960 in Durant, Okla. to Alvin Glen and Linda Jewel (Teel) Self.

He was a longtime resident of Caddo and graduated from Caddo High School in 1978.

Kevin married Anita Lynn Lorance on March 12, 1982 in Caddo. They were best friends and loved each other more than anything in the world. Anita was always proud of Kevin’s racing career and supported him in his business endeavors. They went on many hunting and fishing trips together with friends and family. They always enjoyed the adventure.

Kevin started Self Racing Heads at the age of 13. He and his dad later started the business Self Racing Heads and Engines.

He did his work with a hand-held grinder. He easily improved the flow of a cylinder head, often adding his port intruder. Kevin was a master fabricator, building manifolds with a beautiful weld.

He did what he loved everyday with his dad, son Hunter and Danny at his side, always looking for ways to help his customers run faster and win races. He was a NHRA drag racer. His competition Eliminator Stormin’ Six III 1932 Bantam Altered won many Wallys, with him in the driver’s seat. He and his dad won the 2016 U.S. Nationals. Kevin was always thankful for the help that was given to him from friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Self on October 27, 2021.

Survivors include his wife Anita Self of the home; son, Hunter Self and wife Kylie of Caddo, Okla.; mother Linda Self of Caddo, Okla. as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, Okla. with Bro. Jeff Self and Bro. Anthony Williams officiating.

Hunter Self, Faron Williamson, Troy Williamson, Mason Scarborough, Mike Self, Mack Self, Brian Self, Kenny Owens, Bryce Self, Johnny Rice, Clint Neff, John Mesnard, Danny Smith, Chuck Howell, Charlie Howell, Dallas Hardaway, Jimmy Carroll, Stephen Glenn, Terry Milligan, Barry Edwards, Roger Springer, Chad, O’Hern and Wade Baskin will serve as honorary pallbearers.
