Kenneth Blackburn was born in Atoka, Okla. to Floyd and Stella (Keylon) Blackburn on April 6, 1946. He was promoted to Heaven on January 16, 2022, at the age of 75.
Kenneth grew up in Atoka, Okla. where he attended school and upon graduation went on to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army. After serving his time in the Army, Kenneth returned home and continued to serve his country and community by starting work at the U.S. Postal Service retiring more than 30 years later. Kenneth met the love of his life, Shirley (Robinson) Blackburn and they were married on November 12, 1976. Together, they had three children.
Kenneth was passionate about spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Kenneth also enjoyed writing poetry in which he used to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others and researching his genealogy. Kenneth never met a stranger and was always reliable to tell a great story along with some corny dad jokes.
Kenneth was proceeded in death by his father and mother Floyd and Stella Blackburn of Atoka, Okla., and his sister Joyce Caldwell of Pilot, Texas.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Shirley Blackburn of Durant, Okla.; brother, Curt Blackburn of Tulsa,Okla.; daughter and son-in-law, Kendi and Trent Marlett of Durant, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Renda Blackburn of Durant, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Sara Blackburn of Durant, Okla.; daughter and son-in-law Shelly and Derrick Porter of Porterville, Calif. Best known as his role of Pop Pop, Kenneth is also survived by his six grandchildren; Talon, Tristan, and Teagan Blackburn, Riker Henagar, and Cheslee and Reagan Marlett, all of Durant, Okla.
Funeral services to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Ray Earley will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Mike Robinson, Kevin Robinson, Kelly Robinson, Steve Robinson and Trent Marlett.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. The services will be live streamed on FB at Brown’s Durant Funeral Cremation page.
