Kemper Tyson

Kemper Tyson, of Coleman, Okla., passed from this life on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019 at the age of 84 doing what he loved, checking on his cows in Hopewell, Okla. He was born on Thursday, Dec. 20, 1934 in Phoenix, Arizona to Robert Lee and Lela Evadna (Weems) Tyson.

He attended Phoenix Union High School in Phoenix, Ariz. where he met his wife Sue Shalley. They married on Oct. 10, 1953.

Kemper had many jobs throughout his working life including being a mechanic, a home builder in Phoenix and Durant, and farming many acres of peanuts and running cattle for many years. Throughout his life he served on the Coleman school board, was a member of the Coleman co-op, and supported the local 4-H club. He enjoyed attending sporting events, livestock shows, Christmas programs, and graduations to spend time with friends and family. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family brought him the greatest joys of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Lee and Lela Evadna (Weems) Tyson and 5 siblings.

Survivors include his wife Sue Tyson of the home; daughters: Penny Pannell and husband Mike of Coleman, Okla., Mary Jo Taylor and husband Randy of Durant, Okla., Nancy Adams and husband Larry of Coleman, Okla., Peggy Freeman and husband Robert of Alex, Okla.; son, Hoot Tyson and wife Annette of Greenwood, Ark.; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Shalley of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Cristy Densman and husband Josh of Spring Hill, Tenn., James Pannell and wife Angel of Atoka, Okla., Jeremy Taylor of Oklahoma City, Okla., Justin Davis and wife Chandra of Norman, Okla., Aaron Taylor and wife Meggie of Rockwall, Texas, Sarah DaVault of Coleman, Okla., Megan VanOverschelde and husband Dain of Greenwood, Ark., Heather Anderson and husband Collin of Princeton, Texas, Mackenzie Sweeney and husband Michael of Edmond, Okla., Rebecka Tyson of Fort Smith, Arkansas; 14 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews: Boog, Roger, Sharon, Rick, Buddy and Chuck.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019 at Gordon Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019 at the Folsom Baptist Church in Coleman, Okla. with Bro. Earl White officiating. Jim Anderson, Adrian Stanley, Mark McDaniel, Grant McDaniel, Dustin Morgan and Possum ‘James’ Whitmire will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at the Coleman Cemetery in Coleman, Okla.
