Karlita Jo (Swindell) Wimberley was born Monday, June 24, 1957 in Dallas, Texas to Champ Swindell and Olendle (Duckworth) Swindell. She entered into her Heavenly home on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from her home at the age of 65.
Karlita grew up and lived most of her life in Colbert. She has spent the last 41 years with Howard Wimberley as they began their journey together in March 1982. In the late ‘70s, Karlita worked at the Red Rooster Club as a bartender for several years and then for J & D Metal Building Supply for 20 years until her retirement in 2020.
Karlita enjoyed playing cards and was a pool shark while working at the Club. She loved family gatherings, cookouts, being with grandkids, watching movies and being outdoors at a campsite.
Karlita was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kerry Swindell; and a sister, Darla Swindell.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Wimberley, of Colbert, Okla.; daughter, Sara Webb and her husband, Allen, of Colbert, Okla.; son, Chance Wimberley of Colbert, Okla.; sister, Karen Shivers of Colbert, Okla.; brothers, Kimmy Swindell and his wife, Pam, of Colbert, Okla., and Keith Swindell and his wife, Jame, of Pottsboro, Texas; four grandkids: Blake Rhoads, Hope Rhoads, Kaile Webb and Kristin Webb; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Home in Durant.
A celebration of Karlita’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Truth Church in Denison, Texas with David Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert with Kevin Swindell, Kreg Swindell, Jeremy Swindell, Tyler Gibby, Marty Price and Jon Erwin, serving as casket bearers.
