Joyce Sample passed from this life on Thursday, April 21, 2022, in Denison, Texas, at the age of 90. She was born on September 3, 1931, in Battiest, Okla. She married the love of her life, Verline David Sample on December 21, 1946, in Sherman, Texas. They were married for 67 years before his passing in 2014.
Joyce was a homemaker and was a member of the Baptist faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and going to Choctaw casino. Getting to spend time with her children and grandchildren brought her the most joy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Left behind to cherish Joyce’s memory are her two children: son, David Sample of Elgin, Okla. and her daughter, Kay Fuhrman of Plano, Texas; siblings: sister, Sue Hampton of Durant, Okla., sister, JoElla Van Sickle of Boswell, Okla., brother, Bill Hampton of Antlers, Okla., brother, Ronnie Hampton of Boswell, Okla. and her daughter-in-law, Mary Sample of Midland, Texas; grandchildren: Kimberley Sample of Durant, Okla., Kristie Sample of Elgin, Okla., Aimee Reyes of San Antonio, Texas, Josh Sample and wife Allison of Wylie, Texas, Tony Gozberk of Plano, Texas, Cindi Gozberk of New York City, N.Y., and Krystin Chevers of Sherman, Texas; great-grandchildren include: Tanner Hearon of Mead, Okla., Chelsea Dean of Durant, Okla., Julia Sample of Wylie, Texas, Jaxon Ellis of Plano, Texas, Zae Mason of Dallas, Texas, Malik Davis of Sherman, Texas, Marshall Dean, Delilah Dean of Durant, Okla., and Madilyn Reyes of San Antonio, Texas.
Preceding her in death are her mother, Grace Hampton; husband, Verline Sample; son, Richard Sample; daughter, Melissa Cross and grandson, Patrick Sample.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, at the Chapel on the Hill in
Cedarlawn Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. Interment will immediately follow.
