John J. Freeman, a resident of Calera, Oklahoma for the past 14 years, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Sherman, Texas, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 9, 1942, in Mead, Oklahoma.
John attended Mead High School before serving in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Ethiopia working in mobile communication. After completing his military service, he continued his career in communications as a civilian contractor with Page Communication, working alongside Johns Hopkins University on research in Germany. After returning to the United States, John worked 30 years for the Union Pacific Railroad.
While in Germany, John met and married the love of his life, Henriette. Their marriage spanned 58 devoted years.
John leaves behind countless loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his wife, Henriette. His son and daughter in law John and Jennifer Freeman, who reside in Houston, Texas and Los Angeles, Calif. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Olivia and Chandler Freeman, both currently attending college in California. Additional family includes his sisters Shirley Shephard and Pandora Norris, his brother in law Leroy Morris, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives across the United States and Europe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cleopatra and W. A. Freeman, his grandson Devin T. Freeman, and his brother Leonard Freeman.
Among John’s greatest joys were the days he spent hunting and fishing with his son and grandchildren. Those memories will remain treasured, and John’s presence will be profoundly missed.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Mead Cemetery in Mead, Oklahoma, with Bro. Layne Heitz officiating.
