Joe Bruce Baxter went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 14, 2020. Joe was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on Feb. 26, 1953 to Suzie and Clarence E. Baxter. He married Mary Jo Hornbeck on June 27, 1970. They had just celebrated their 50th anniversary in June.
Joe is proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy Baxter and Clarence Baxter; nephews, Raymond Baxter and Jeff Baxter, and niece Shelly Brewer
He leaves behind his wife Mary Jo of Calera, Okla.; son, Joe Craig Baxter and wife Jeanie of Silo, Okla. and daughter, Brandi DeShay Baxter of Calera, Okla.; grandsons: Justin and Bradley Baxter of Silo, Okla. and Matthew Quarles of Bokchito, Okla.; granddaughter, Alesha Marie Sutterfield and husband Zack of Silo, Okla.; sisters: Virginia Bowers and husband Gerald of Cartwright, Okla., and Barbara Proctor of Cartwright, Okla.; brothers: Charles Ray Baxter of Cartwright, Okla. and Johnny Baxter and wife Jan of Missouri. Joe had several nieces and nephews and he loved them all. Joe loved his dog Fluffy.
He will be missed by so many and was so blessed to be loved by so many. Joe left behind one special message for his nephew Bryan Baxter: I may be gone but I’m still gonna vote! Gotcha! Uncle Joe.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17 at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Colbert. Donny Neil will officiate. Pallbearers will be Justin Baxter, Bradley Baxter, Kendall Shives, Zach Sutterfield, Matthew Quarles and Billy Giles.
