Jerry Eugene “Moe” Morgan, 80, of Mead, Okla., passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2022 at his home near Lake Texoma.
Moe was born August 7, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Okla. He graduated in 1960 from Northeast High School in Oklahoma City. He married Frances Janette McFarland on June 19, 1961. They lived together for almost 63 years finally retiring in the Willow Springs community outside of Durant that they both enjoyed on the weekends until retirement. He fished at night under the moon, he fished during the day at the railroad bridge, and he fished at the dock in the marina. Catfish was his favorite fish to catch, blues especially, but he began to enjoy crappie and striper in his later years.
When he wasn’t fishing, he worked as an electrician. He owned a sign company, Morgan Electric and Sign Company in Oklahoma City, before he joined and retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #1141. His union work encompassed being a general foreman and electrician on projects at automotive assembly plants, nuclear plants, oil refineries, major retailers, and many others all over the United States including California, Arizona, New Mexico, North Dakota, Wyoming, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma.
Moe was a 32° Master Mason of the Scottish Rite and a member of Britton Masonic Lodge #434. He enjoyed earning his blue cap by serving in the Scottish Rite Consistory in McAlester for 50 years.
Moe perfected the process of making stinkbait using the recipe his father passed down to him. He was famous for his use of stinkbait when fishing for catfish. During retirement, he created a volunteer trash service for the Willow Springs community due to “weekenders” enjoyment of the area each weekend. This volunteer service is being carried on my Mike Goss and others in honor of his quest to keep Willow Springs cleaned up. During COVID, he created a Food Bank with others to help make sure neighbors didn’t go hungry. It was well received and appreciated by all in the Willow Springs community.
Finally, his most lasting act of service to Willow Springs while he was retired was to bring the community together for a parade of golf carts each Fourth of July. Last year, the golf cart parade had over 44 golf carts with at least two or more people riding along which was the largest participation there had ever been for this event.
Surviving Moe are his wife, Frances J. Morgan of Mead, Okla.; son, Michael W. Morgan (Tracy) of Pottsville, Pa.; daughter, Peggy S. Lisenbee (Rick) of Haslet, Texas; seven grandchildren, Molly (Robert) Fraze, Matthew (Emily) Morgan, Kevin (Tanna George) Lisenbee, Jessica (Dak) Hall, Whitney (Michael Pagan) Lisenbee, Noah Morgan, and Hailey Morgan; and two great-grandchildren, Addison Morgan and Evelyn Morgan.
