James “Papaw” Thomas Morse of Denton, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, in Denton, Texas at the age of 85. He was born on March 2, 1940, in Durant, Oklahoma to William Gordon and Maudie Jewell (Hutchinson) Morse. He married the love of his life Virginia Armstrong on November 28, 1969, in Durant, Oklahoma.
James was a long-time resident of Durant, Oklahoma and Denton, Texas and a member of The Church of the Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed working on the CB Radio, working with tools, doing handyman projects, doing different experiments with magnets, and was a lifelong learner (thanks to YouTube).
Left behind to cherish James’ memory are his two daughters, Darlene McKinnell of Denton, Texas and Traci Felton and her husband Karl of Denton, Texas. He was Papaw to everyone and leaves behind countless friends and family.
Preceding James in death are his parents, William and Maudie; his wife, Virginia; and his stepfather Billy Lee Foote.
Family hour will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home at 121 N Fifth Ave. in Durant, Oklahoma.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with Levi Dartt officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Mead Cemetery in Mead, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Ian Jay Trammell, Ray Childers, Caed Childers, Sean Trammell, Watson Eaidkaew, Wat Eaidkaew, Adrian Lopez, and Braxton Marsh. Honorary pallbearers will be Carlos Felton, David Feil, Bobby Myers, Michael Marsh, and Kenneth Thorne.
Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
