James Roy Scoggins was born on May 6th, 1957, in Crosbyton, Texas to James and Mary Ann Scoggins. He was the oldest of four sons. Johnny, Timothy, and Stacy. He graduated from Estacado High School in Lubbock, Texas and went into the Army after graduation and served from 1976-1982 until his Honorable Discharge. On August 24, 1978, he married Rhonda Rowden in Shallowater, Texas. They had two daughters Christina Scoggins born in West Germany and Maranda Scoggins born in Lubbock, Texas.
He has one son-in -aw, Andrew Mackenzie and six grandchildren, William Gonzales and Audrey Gonzales from McKinny, Texas, Adrian Vasseur from Garland, Texas, Carter Mackenzie and Ona Mackenzie from Sherman Texas, and Sophia Mackenzie from South Carolina.
Roy was an active member at Preston Volunteer Fire Dept where he became an EMT, PARAMEDIC and a Board Member. He and his wife Rhonda, later subcontracted with PVES as Paramedic team. Which led to PVES becoming a paid service for the Preston, Pottsboro and Locust area.
When Roy retired, he moved to Achille to help his brothers and sisters-in-law Tim, Kim, Stacy, and Bonnie take care of his mother when his dad passed. Roy enjoyed being with Tim and all their wild adventures that they got into.
Roy made many friends wherever he went. He will surely be missed by all.
A celebration of Roy’s life with Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday July 25, 2025, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel.
