James Leonard Lane, Jr. was born May 28, 1926 to Leonard and Velma Lane in Hendrix, Okla. Junior was the oldest of six children. He played basketball in school and graduated from Achille, Okla. in 1946 and later joined the United States Army where he served as an MP in Kobe, Japan. After an honorable discharge from the service, he lived and worked in California and married his high school sweetheart, Dovie Scoggins, on Feb. 11, 1949 in Walnut Creek, Calif. They transferred to Dallas, Texas where they worked, attended church, and started a family.
Jim, as he was affectionately called by Dovie, worked as a sheet metal worker at LTV in Grand Prairie, Texas and then Bell Helicopter in Hurst, Texas until his retirement in 1990. He was awarded with commendations for work simplification methods and excellent attendance. They raised their family of three children in Grand Prairie and faithfully attended Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
In his spare time, Jim loved to garden, care for his yards and vehicles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling to beautiful vacation spots such as Colorado. His hobbies included making knives and beautiful clocks made of cedar, wooden shelves, quilt racks and other decorative objects. He kept up with current events through the news on television and newspapers. He enjoyed major league sports such as football, basketball and baseball.
Jim Lane was an honorable man. He was a good neighbor, faithful husband and loving father. He believed in supporting the church with tithes and offerings and supported mission work. His only son and firstborn, Mike Lane, was a missionary to Honduras. He looked forward to phone calls and visits with Mike where they shared common interests in guns, the outdoors, and their love for the Lord. Jim and Dovie’s two daughters, Karen and Donna, loved spending time with their Daddy. He loved and cared for his family in any way he could. Upon retiring, the couple moved to Durant, Okla. where they attend Western Meadows Baptist Church.
James L. Lane resided in his home until he entered heaven on May 13, 2020. He was lovingly cared for by his wife, daughters, private caregivers and nurses and aides from Elara Home Health/Hospice, friends and neighbors and members of Western Meadows Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of more than 71 years, Dovie N. Scoggins Lane; his daughter, Karen Wheeler of Durant, daughter Donna Talley and husband, Willis, of Missouri; daughter-in-law, Debbie Lane of Washington; all four of his sisters, Florine Draper, Glenda Nicholson, Barbara Payne, and Paula Lane; six living grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren plus one on the way, and a host of other family members and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Velma Lane; brother, David Lane; son, James Michael Lane; grandson, Cody S. Wheeler.
Honorary pallbearers: Willis Talley, Brandon Lane, Matthew Talley, Chad Wheeler, Terry Cole, Cosmin Holhas-Vaida, Robert Cron.

Funeral service for James Lane will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla. with Brother Cole Newton, and Brother Brandon Lane officiating. Burial will be at Rosewood Cemetery in Achille, Okla.
