James Lowell Wagoner, 89, of Calera, Oklahoma, passed from this life on July 23, 2025. He was born in Durant, Oklahoma, on September 1, 1935, to Julius Wagoner and Mae (Newkirk) Wagoner. James attended and graduated from Durant High School. He worked as a pumper most of his life maintaining water wells.
He married the love of his life, Betty Jo (Collins) Wagoner on July 1, 1967, in Durant, Oklahoma. James attended and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed going to garage sales, fishing, playing dominoes, and RVing.
James is preceded in death by his parents; Julius and Mae Wagoner, brothers; Jerrell and Herman Wagoner, sister; Jolene Knipe, and daughter; JoVon Davis and brother in law Buddy Manners.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Wagoner of the home; sister, Nell Manners of Calera, Okla.; son, James Wagoner, Jr. and spouse Kimberly of Oklahoma City, Okla.; daughter, Karen Loerwald and spouse Tom of Kingston, Okla.; son, John Wagoner and spouse Cheryl of Tuttle, Okla.; son, John Aplin and spouse Jan of Cassville, Mo.; daughter, Sharon Reynolds and spouse J.R. of Goose Creek, S.C.; son, Kim Nixon and spouse Teresa of Newcastle, Okla.; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren.
A visitation for James will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral services to honor James will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Brown’s Funeral Service chapel in Durant, Oklahoma with burial to follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers are David Aaron Thorp, Adam Nixon, Jordan Thorp, Jace Loerwald, J.W. Wagoner, and Dalton Vice. Honorary Pallbearers are John Aplin Jr., Jordan Reynolds, and Ryan Reynolds.
Services are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Services.
