James Kinnett

James Ralph “Jim” Kinnett was born Friday, February 7, 1941 in Houston, Texas to William Ralph Kinnett and Iva Ruthreen (Perry) Kinnett. He passed from this life on Sunday, May 21, 2023 in Denison, Texas at the age of 82.

James is a Vietnam veteran, serving with the United States Marine Corps for four years and three months. He is a true patriot who selflessly gave and sacrificed his life so we can enjoy our freedom. James married Edna Gayle Nichols on July 6, 1995 in Fort Worth, Texas. He worked many years as an Inspector for Lone Star Gas before his retirement. James and Gayle came to Calera in 2003 from Sherman, Texas. They are members of the First Baptist Church in Durant.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Eugene Kinnett; and step-father, Max Cash.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edna Gayle of Calera, Okla.; son, Mathew James Kinnett of Houston, Texas; daughter, Lisa Kinnett of Denison, Texas; step-sons, Dee Carter of Plano, Texas, and Scott Carter of Sherman, Texas; grandson, Cash Louis Kinnett of Houston, Texas; sisters, Hazel Hance and her husband, Richard of LaPorte, Texas, and Peggy Fulton and her husband, Carl of Seabrook, Texas; and special friends, Matt and Katie Green of Silo, Okla.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Brown’s Funeral Home chapel in Durant with Pastor Garry McNeill officiating and Pastor Kerry Groce assisting. Committal services at Highland Cemetery pavilion in Durant with Court Nichols, Carl Nichols, Dan Baskin, Jimmy Patton, Dee Carter, and Scott Carter, serving as casket bearers.
