James Franklin Dodson was born on June 23, 1938, in Richmond, Calif., to parents Clarence and Treasie Dodson. James passed from this life on November 18, 2024, in Colbert, Okla., at the age of 86. He attended high school in Gerty, Okla., after moving from California. Following high school, he was employed by General Motors in Arlington, Texas for 31 years where he retired. In 1978, he married Carol Tollett and after retiring he and Carol moved from Richardson, Texas to the area where they grew up.
James is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Dodson; sister, Shirley Foster; great-grandsons, Keith Dodson and Kipton Fowler and step-daughter, Elizabeth Perez.
James is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carol Dodson of the home; son, Eddy Dodson of Maud, Okla.; daughters, Tami Joe Piety and husband Jeff of Burleson, Texas and Lisa Kay Edwards of Burleson, Texas; step-sons, Ralph (Tony) Smith and Kent Smith; grandchildren: Danny Fowler, Leanna Broom and husband Chris, Robin Fowler, Evan Edwards, Talon Edwards, Nikki Keener, Jeffrey Perez, David Smith, Erin Hood, and Audra Smith; great-grandchildren: Madeline Perez, Faith Perez, Braden Fowler, Ethan Broom, Aiden Broom, Ryan Broom, Odin Edwards, Railynn Edwards, Gage Fowler, and Timber Keener and numerous extended family and friends.
A celebration of James’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday November 22, 2024, at Brown’s Funeral Service Durant Chapel. Claudie Sumner will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Evan Loran Edwards and Talon Jay Edwards.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
