Irene Moore

Odessa Irene (Chalk) Moore, 93, passed from this life, Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at her home in Durant, Oklahoma. Irene was born on Sunday, October 25, 1931 at Achille, Oklahoma to Russell C. Chalk and Ethel May Sparks Chalk.

She graduated from Durant High School in 1950. She met the love of her life Bobby J. Moore when he was on leave from the U.S. Army, and were married on January 1, 1952. She fainted after the first kiss. She was worried about how she was going to tell her parents (especially her Dad).

Their first child Evelyn Kay was born February 3, 1954 and died February 8, 1954. While they were stationed in Germany, they were blessed with their second child Linda Sue, February 9, 1956. Irene continued her education path at S.O. State College and graduated with an Elementary Ed. Degree in 1970 and a Masters’ Degree in 1975 at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

She began her teaching journey in 1970 at Denison, Texas at Raynor Elementary and then retired from Lamar. After retirement she signed up for Substitute Teaching in the Durant School System. She loved the students and her colleagues.

She is a 55 -ear member of Durant Chapter No. 17 Eastern Star and served as a Worthy Matron many times. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Durant. She loves her Sunday School Family dearly. She loved attending church services, and special activities especially with her Sunday School friends at the First Baptist Church. She also enjoyed the First United Bank Chairman’s Club activities with her friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Moore, former Bryan Co. Sheriff; daughters, infant Evelyn Kay Moore, and Linda Moore Blanton; granddaughter, Lindsay Blanton, her pride and joy; parents, Russell and Ethel Sparks Chalk; sister, Phyllis Eggenberg; brother, Ralph Chalk; infant brother, Alfred Leon Chalk; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty Colclazier and Joe Colclazier; and brothers-in-law, Ray Carr and Hubert Eggenberg.

Irene is survived by her brother, Mike Chalk and wife Marti; a sister, Helen Chalk Gray, and sister-in-law, Mary Chalk; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

A visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Brown’s Funeral Chapel.
