Rep. Justin Humphrey
The next legislative session starts Monday, Feb. 2, and with it comes the opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to participate in the Oklahoma House Page Program.
Pages who apply and are selected, will visit the State Capitol during a week of the legislative session.
During the week they spend at the Capitol, pages are given the chance to shadow their district representative and observe daily legislative activities – from committee meetings to floor votes and more. They learn to read and debate bills in their own mock legislative session. They select their own leaders from among their peers. They participate in leadership and civic engagement activities. They get to meet students from all parts of the state. It’s just a really great time for all who participate.
Each representative gets to host several pages throughout the session. I always enjoy the opportunity to get to show young people from my House district around the State Capitol and introduce them to the process of state government.
This program runs from early February through Mid-May, with pages selecting the week they wish to attend. All food, transportation and hotel accommodations are provided, and pages are chaperoned throughout the week.
Applications for the spring legislative session opened Dec. 1.
To apply, high school juniors and seniors can submit an application through our House website: https://former.okhouse.gov/Pages/. More information about the program is available on the website as well.
Weeks fill up quickly, so I encourage any student who is interested to apply soon.
