Help Wanted: General Maintenance Housing and Residence Life

Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Housing & Residence Life of invites applications for the position of General Maintena

SUMMARY

This is a multifunction position under the general prevision of the Director of Housing & Residence Life (HRL). (a) to perform maintenance services on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment and component parts, including prescribe preventative maintenance, and (b) to perform the duties normally required in the trade of a Plumber.  (c) additional facilities maintenance tasks.

This position is primarily responsible for maintenance services in buildings assigned to HRL, including North Hall, Shearer Hall and Suites, Chickasaw and Choctaw Halls. The position also functions as a backup for the Physical Plant and may require after hours and weekend work. The position is considered essential and may be required to respond after regular business hours, including when the University is closed or under other emergency/crisis situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains, repairs, adjusts, clean and replaces hang down fan coil units, wall fan, cool units, slide in refrigerated unites, heat pumps and window units.  Component parts include but are not limited to the following:  interior chill and hot water lines, condensate drains, coils, blower motors and squirrel cages, belts, pulleys, reducing valves, strainers, and fitters.
  • Maintains and repairs residential size refrigerators.
  • Inspects, installs, repairs, and replaces pipes and fittings to maintain the water, gas, and plumbing systems of the respective buildings, including all work normally required of a Journeyman Plumber.
  • Repairs or replaces damaged plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, and bathtubs and their connections to supply or drainpipes by fitting gaskets, couplings, traps and valves, and soldering connections to seal joints where necessary.  Opens clogged drains with plumber’s snake, auger or plunger.
  • Stores and transports materials, tools and equipment as required.  Maintains adequate inventories of parts.
  • Maintains and repairs heating/AC and related equipment.
  • Assists the Housing Facilities Supervisor in the supervision of student workers.
  • Participates in “on-call” maintenance rotation for Housing & Residence Life and is considered essential personnel that may be required to respond to urgent/emergency and/or crisis situations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and arranges for additional help as required.

  4. Safety: Employee works safely, attends safety training offered/required, and follows appropriate safety rules and regulations. In relation to level of NIMs training completed, participates in incident management preparation, and performs incident duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Valid Driver’s License
  3. Two – four years working in building facilities/maintenance.

PREFERRED

  1. Two – four years trade school certification and/or journeyman experience in HVAC and/or Plumbing.
