Glen Russell

Glen Dwayne Russell, dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend triumphantly arrived in the eternal care of his Lord on December 22, 2022.

Glen Russell or “Big Daddy,” as he was known to some, was born January 26, 1946 in Ada, Okla., to Gladys and Joe Russell. Glen graduated from Allen High School, where he met his future wife of 56 years, Billie “Sis” Wofford. Glen and Billie were married January 16, 1965. They remained married until Billie’s passing in 2017.

After the passing of his wife Billie, God provided the gift of love again for Glen with Norma McLean. Glen and Norma were married June 19, 2019. Though together only a short time, Norma and Glen found great fun and joy living life together. Especially spending time with their blended families and their beloved dog Barkley.

Glen served as a member of the Oklahoma National Guard for six years and would go on to receive a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1973.

Glen worked for many years for Texoma Pipeline Company where he made friends that would last a lifetime. In 1987, he moved to Ferris, Okla., where he served as the Superintendent of McGee Creek Lake until his retirement. It was during this time that he was also called to serve the Lord as a minister and later as a pastor. He faithfully answered this calling for nearly 30 years. Serving as pastor for both Lula Missionary Baptist Church in Lula, Okla., and also at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Non, Oklahoma.

Glen never met a stranger, and chances were pretty good he would tell whomever he was talking to about his love for family, his love for the Lord, or both. He loved to laugh and cut up and share his life stories.

Glen is survived by his wife Norma of Mead, Okla., his daughter, Tracey and her husband Eric of Wylie, Texas; his grandsons, Benjamin Whipkey of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mason Whipkey and his wife Ashley, of Yukon, Okla., and Jacob Whipkey of Norman, Okla.; sons, Bobby McLean and his wife Carol of Lone Grove, Okla., Bryant McLean and his wife Brenda of Azle, Texas, and David McLean and his wife Heather of Ardmore, Okla.; eight more grandkids and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Anita, his wife Billie, and their daughter Tammy Russell Cannon.

Pallbearers include his grandsons Ben Whipkey, Mason Whipkey, Jacob Whipkey, Tristan Salling, Zane Henderson, Colby McLean, and Cale McLean. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Glass, Ross Wofford, Shawn Wofford, Craig Wofford, Chris Wofford, Chuck Wooford, Jamie Wofford, and Brad Wofford.

“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5:8
