Ethel Houston

Ethel Louise (Trammell) Houston passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at her home in Bokchito, Oklahoma at the age of 76. Ethel was born on Monday, January 3, 1949 in Durant, Oklahoma to Harmon Bentley Trammell and Alice Elizabeth (Drake) Trammell. She attended schools at Old Church and Bokchito, where she graduated in May 1967 from Bokchito High School.

Ethel met the love of her life, Jerry Houston in Bokchito, Oklahoma, when they both were working for Easter’s. Ethel worked in the office while Jerry worked across the street in the garage as a mechanic. They were married on Wednesday, May 21, 1969, at First Baptist Church in Bokchito. They celebrated 56 years together in May.

Ethel was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Bokchito, Oklahoma. She worked for Easter’s for 22 years. She also worked for Choctaw Nation in the Burial Department for about 14 years. She “retired” to go back to work at Coffey Murray Funeral Home where she was still helping out after 20 plus years. Ethel also did bookkeeping for her son Bradley for his Houston Auction Services for several years.

Ethel loved to go antiquing for Pyrex bowls and any other “goodies” she could find. She also loved to quilt, especially making baby quilts. Ethel was well known for her homemade rolls, cakes and pies.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Harmon Bentley and Alice Elizabeth Trammell.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Houston of Bokchito, Oklahoma; her daughter, Theresa Yvonne Houston of Bokchito; her sons, Bentley David Houston and wife Alyce Cates Houston of Bokchito, and Bradley Deryl Houston, also of Bokchito. She is also survived by her precious and only granddaughter, Bentley Cates Houston, who knew her as MeMe. Ethel also leaves behind her sisters, Edith Brewer and husband Terry of Longview, Texas, and Elaine Whitmire, of Coleman, Oklahoma, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her family will receive friends at her Family Hour from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Faith Bapitist Church in Bokchito, with Brother Ryan Perry and Brother Jim Parrish officiating. Ethel will be laid to rest in Bokchito Cemetery following her funeral service.

Those serving as pallbearers are Scott Allen, Steve Wiley, Danny Thomas, Danny McIntire, Trent Perry, Jr., and Braxton Barton. Honorary pallbearers will be Trent Perry, Sr., Johnny Bundrant, Rick Layman, Joe Robinson, Rodney Jeffreys, PJ Ingram, and John Teel.
