Elmer Eldridge

Elmer Lee Eldridge, of Calera, Okla. passed from this life on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021 at the age of 93. He was born on Wednesday, May 30, 1928 in Freeburn, Ky. to William and Myrtle (Elkins) Eldridge.

Elmer married Betty Louise Lankford on April 30, 1949.

He came to Oklahoma on June 19, 1989 upon retiring from Ford Motor Company from Park Forest, Ill. He enjoyed golf, sports, fishing and he remained faithful and followed the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He served the Army and Navy. During WWII he was on the USS Hogans, an escort ship for ammunition ships to supply forces in Europe. During the Korean War he was an Army sharp shooter and earned two Bronze Stars. He was a faithful believer in God. He was not bound to any church but could reverently worship in any Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle (Elkins) Eldridge; brother, James Eldridge; sisters, Fern Eldridge Cantees, Junita Eldridge Collins; grandson, Nicholas Bryan Eldridge and granddaughter, Amy Louise Eldridge.

Survivors include his sons: Elmo Lee Eldridge, Jr. of Brookport, Ill., Robert Thomas Eldridge of Crown Point, Ind., Victor Gene Eldridge of New Lenox, Ill., Nick Eldridge of Bullhead, Ariz., Danny Randell Eldridge of Calera, Okla.; daughter, Donna Lou Morris of Aubrey, Texas; sister, Willadean Eldridge Lambert of Freeburn, Ky.; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Monterey Chapel, 224 S Ninth Ave. in Durant, Okla. Dan Eldridge, Jason Daniels, Victor Eldridge, Danny Eldridge and Randy Eldridge will serve as pallbearers. A graveside service will follow at the Rosehill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma.
