Edna Taylor

Edna (Buchanan) Taylor, of Durant, Okla. passed from this life on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021 at the age of 91. She was born on Saturday, April 27, 1930 in Durant, Okla. to Eston and Avis Minerva (Smith) Buchanan.

She married Dwayne Taylor on May 20, 1965 in Durant, Okla.

She was a longtime resident of Durant, Okla. She was a waitress at Irene’s Café, Cattleman’s Café, Whitehouse and the T.C. Lunch Room. In later years, she cooked at the Atoka and Caney Truck Stop, Caddo Dairy Queen and the Catfish Place.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend to all of her family and friends. Mrs. Taylor loved people, loved to give and cook for all of her family and friends.

She was a very giving person. No one came to her home without being fed and given something when they left. She enjoyed living in the country, taking care of her garden, milking cows and caring for chickens. Her dogs were special to her, especially Sheila the German Sheppard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eston and Avis Minerva (Smith) Buchanan; husband, Dwayne Taylor; brothers and sisters: Gladys Buchanan Williams, Lois Buchanan Waitman, Dessie Buchanan McCarty, Jolene Buchanan Rochelle, Robert Buchanan, Charles David Buchanan, David Buchanan, Edgar “Little Red” Buchanan, Clarence Buchanan and Eston Robert “Big Red” Buchanan.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth Powell and wife Darlene of Ardmore, Okla.; daughters, Clara Baker and husband T. J. of Durant, Okla., Cynthia Taylor Gray and husband Thomas of Bakersfield, Calif., Avis Marie Taylor of Ardmore, Okla.; sisters, Joyce Buchanan Cleveland of Durant, Okla., Marie Ricks and husband J.R. of McAlester, Okla.; brother, Alvin Buchanan of Durant, Okla.; grandsons: Jason Powell and wife Vanessa of Ardmore, Okla., Townsend “T.J.” Baker and wife Stephanie of Huntsville, Ala., Brandon W. Powell and wife Morgan of Ardmore, Okla.; granddaughter, Amanda Gray of Bakersfield, Calif.; great-grandchildren Ely Powell, Natalie Powell, Nate Powell, Zoey Gray, Gemma Baker, Nathan Powell and Luke Powell as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at the Liveoak United Pentecostal Church, Durant, Okla. with Rev. Virgil Cornwell and Rev. Roberts Eades of Savoy, Texas is officiating.

A graveside service will follow at the cemetery in Caddo, Okla. Randy Rochelle, Nathan Hart, Jerry Buchanan, Gary Buchanan and Clint Carr will serve as pallbearers. Bubby Hart, Earl Boone and J.R. Ricks will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
