Earl Wayne Gatlin

Earl Wayne Gatlin was born in Durant, Okla., on August 31, 1940, and passed from this life on November 17, 2022, at the age of 82. He was the fifth child of James and Lillian Gatlin.

Wayne had a good life. He worked in the peanut business for 40 years and prepared taxes on the side. He then opened the Wayne Gatlin Tax Services fulltime in 1980 and continued doing them until November 2022 for a total of 64 years doing taxes. He was very active and hardly said no to anyone he met. He would want to be remembered as a helpful person and leaves behind lots of family and lots of friends and loved to be involved with a good game of dominos or horseshoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, J.T., Ray and Leo Gatlin and sisters, Rubadell and Rena Oceal Gatlin.

Wayne is survived by his children, Elaine Shatto and husband Bobby of Maud, Okla. and Jimmie Gatlin and wife Marilyn of Durant, Okla.; brother, Cloyce Gatlin and wife Wannell; sister, Loretta Gatlin Whalen of Durant, Okla.; Fran Gatilin, (mother of his children); brother-in-law, Steven Wingard; grandchildren: Joshua Shatto and wife Robin, Terry Shatto, Kelli Shatto, Lisa Laymon, and Kim Golden; great grandchildren: Eli, Adam and Lauren Shatto, Alton, Makayla and Ashley Laymon, Hayden Bryant, Bailee, Braidon, and Remington Varner; three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Mark Wesley will officiate.

Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera with Stacey Gatlin, Jeremy Williams, Chris Gatlin, Bradley Gatlin, Kevin Wingard, and Gerred Williams serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Shatto, Terry Shatto, Roger Gatlin, Kevin Gatlin, Steve Gatlin, and the Durant High School Class of 1958. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
