The Durant Police Department released the following statement in advance of a planned protest in the area:
“The Durant Police Department is aware of the planned “No Kings” demonstration scheduled for Saturday, June 14, from 3-5 p.m. in the Durant area. Inresponse, the department has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved – including those who choose to demonstrate peacefully and all members of the Durant community.
“As with any public gathering, the Durant Police Department will be monitoring the event and remains ready to respond to any potential public safety concerns. Our operational posture will be focused on maintaining peace, protecting constitutional rights, and ensuring public safety.
“We are firmly committed to upholding the rights of individuals to express their opinions while also safeguarding the safety of the broader public. Our message is simple: we expect peaceful behavior and mutual respect from all participants and attendees – whether they are from Durant or visiting our community.
“We urge the public to act responsibly, avoid any actions that may endanger others, and helps us maintain a safe environment for everyone. Our primary goal is to ensure that the demonstration proceeds without incident and that no one is harmed or place in a position that leads to arrest.
“The Durant Police Department would like to thank our partner agencies for their support as we continue our mission of public safety. Together, we are committed to ensuring that Durant remains a safe place for all.
