Durant man flown to hospital from motorcycle accident

BRYAN COUNTY – A Durant man was injured Saturday night as a result of a motorcycle wreck.

James Southerland, 60, of Durant, was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Old U.S. Highway 70 approximately 5 miles east of Durant at about 10:53 p.m. on Saturday, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Southerland’s motorcycle hit a rough spot in the roadway and he lost control, laid the motorcycle over and came to rest in a ditch.

He was transported by AirEvac to Medical City Plano for trunk internal and leg injuries.

Southerland was not wearing a helmet. The cause of the accident was speed, according to the report.

The OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Philadelphia Volunteer Fire Department and the Bryan County EMS.
